November 18, 2009 - Letter

Hello My Eternal Family!

I am so happy to be able to talk to you again! Sorry about last week I know how to prevent that from happening next time. Ya WOW I was pretty shocked that Grandpa passed away! Mom I am so sorry! Yes I am glad I heard the news from President Hoer, I even told him that. I got it last week after english class so it was a Wednesday. I am curious what was his time of death because I had another crazy experience involved with a jeep this time. Don’t worry I am fine it is healed the doctors in Taiwan are really good. But I want to save this story and the dream I had about Dad for Christmas. Plus when I call it can be more about spiritual things than worldly! And I might as well save the experience I had pondering Grandpa's passing. So be sure to ask me about these 3 stories on Christmas! I don’t feel it is the right time to tell you these stories by the way they are already in the journal so no worries there. I can’t possibly share them over this e-mail. ok?

Yesterday I went up to Tai zhong for Zone Conference and man was it a good one! Ya Elder Watson be a more successful missionary! I want to share these with you right now

1. Write parents every week. This is 1 because he hopes we all write spiritual things not worldly in our e-mails home. I agree less home sicknesses.

2. Shine your shoes every day! You never get a second chance to make a first impression. I used to but I will start doing this tomorrow! haha

3. Increase desire by expressing gratitude to the lord. I actually am good with this one! I rarely ask for things in my prayers.

4. Be obedient! Pretty simple huh

5. When it starts getting to tough for missionaries in other missions, that's when it is getting just right for a Taiwan Taizhong missionary! His Dad used to tell him this but changed the last part to Watson’s of course. That quote is good!

6. Be humble and full of love towards your companion and everyone else! Sometimes this is hard!

7. Magnify your calling do all that is expected and then some.

8. Attitude, if something is going to get done I am going to do it!

9. This one is my favorite.....Don't be content with mediocre gospel knowledge or language! I take this one very seriously! Then he added it took Joseph Smith only 100 days to translate the Book of Mormon! But Elder Zhong a quorom of the 70 was there who at that assignment they Elder Watson and Elder Zhong were companions for zone conference! So Elder Zhong helped re- translate the Book of Mormon in Chinese which took a total of 21 years!!!!! haha cool huh! Obviously Joseph Smith thought ancient reformed Egyptian was easier than Chinese! Ya that little fact strengthened my testimony!

10. Eliminate Ethnocentricity. Pretty much don’t compare!

Bonus: Sell out! Leave it all on the field!

I just loved that list.

So after Zone Conference originally me and 30 other companionships get to interview with Elder Watson. I was bummed I couldn't, instead I got to do a interview with Elder Zhong of the Quorom of the 70. His English is really good for a Taibei person. So I asked him a couple of inspired questions the first was, is Preach My Gospel scripture? He said yes and I should be reading that every day! So I want to invite all of you (my family) to read Preach My Gospel!! Especially you Dad! If you don’t have one ask the Bishop! Preach My Gospel is part of the reason I have changed so much so far on my mission! Is everyone willing to do that for me? So earlier in Zone Conference I gave a talk in Chinese randomly chosen by Elder Watson out of a hat! 10 gave talks out of 50 missionaries there. I was happy to talk when chosen though because I prepared a really good one about Grandpa and how I know he will accept this gospel if we only have faith in him!!! At the end of my interview I asked Elder Zhong what his full name is in chinese. He handed me his business card and said when you get home call me, and do not show anybody my card! He then added you have very good Chinese for being here for only 8 months!!!!!! YEAH!!! I hope he can help me find a really good job when I get home! By the way the spirit was so strong in there I truly know he is a special witness of the lord Jesus Christ!!!! So a long time ago when I said only the 12 are special witnesses I was wrong the 70 are included to because when the 12 apostles can not be somewhere for an assignment the 70 can act in their behalf so Elder Watson taught us this truth in the Doctrine and Covenants section 70! I’m going to send this in case I lose it!

Allen and Maggie! Hopefully will be able to help baptize them! Tomorrow I am baptizing the most golden investigator I have ever taught on my mission!!!! He came to English last night and I gave him his new English name! NICK!!!!! Because he is so prepared and has only been meeting with us for 5 weeks! Almost as long as Nick investigated! Also his baptismal interview was a record 5 minutes!!!! I can’t wait to show you a picture of him!

I love you all,

Love, Elder Christensen

November 9, 2009 - New Companion

Ryan formulated a long email and lost it before he was able to send it.  So no news this week accept for this picture of his new companion.  It looks like he may have gotten a Native this move call which he has wanted since he has been in Taiwan.

I have been posting a lot of pictures.  Scroll down and you may see many new ones mixed with others that have already been posted.
